Inspired by a local adventure by bike
I recently went on a local adventure by bike and took lots of pictures of the scenery to be used for art. I picked an image of the dingy and as I was wanting to explore collage, this is what I ended up doing. It really was an exploration and I ended up going in a different direction to what I had initially intended.

I used acrylic paint for this artwork as I do not have acrylic gouache and did not want to reactivate the paint with the glue. I first drew the image in pencil then decided to paint over with acrylic paint but feel like this wasn’t a necessary step in the end. I was initially going to collage a small portion of the image and paint the rest.
As I went along, it turned into a full on collage. I don’t know if I could call it finished, but I have finished it to where I am happy to stop.
- Will I continue to collage? Maybe
- Will it form part of my work going forward? Probably not
As a result of creating this artwork, I want to use acrylic paint again and maybe revisit a previous style which are expressive landscapes. I might even try to purchase some acrylic gouache to see if that would suit me better…?
On that note, do I pivot away from the body of work I have been creating for the past year, or do I evolve it?
Never mind, I am sure I will work something out.
Inspiration
This week’s inspiration is work I completed in 2023/2024. Acrylic paint on canvas and depicts a different style to my gouache paintings. After playing with acrylic gouache, I want to paint more landscapes like these two.

Hope you all will have a good week, and I will be back next week with another post.
